A. The center pieces for the front and the back

Using the black yarn, work 34(40)44(44) chain sts (foundation chain) and then crochet according to the chart:

1st row: 4 ch sts (= 1st treble), 1 tr into the 5th chain st from the hook and then 1 more tr into every chain st in the foundation chain = 35(41)45(45) treble crochets.

2n row: 3 ch sts, skip 1 tr, crochet 1 half treble into the next tr, *1 ch st, skip 1 tr and make 1 htr into the next tr, repeat from * 15(18)20(20) more times.

Change to the rose-coloured yarn and work through rows 3-4 of the chart. Repeat these two rows alternating between the black and the rose-coloured yarn.

When you've worked 36(36)40(40) rows in total, finishing with two rose-coloured rows [9(9)10(10) rose-coloured stripes in total], break the yarn.

Crochet the other center piece to match.

B. The center pieces for the sleeves

Using the black yarn, work 20(20)24(24) chain sts (foundation chain) and then crochet according to the chart:

1st row: 4 ch sts (1st treble crochet), 1 tr into the 5th chain st from the hook and 1 tr into every chain st in the foundation chain = 21(21)25(25) treble crochets.

2nd row: 3 ch sts, skip 1 tr and into the next tr make 1 htr, *1 ch st, skip 1 tr, 1 htr into the next tr, repeat from * for 8(8)10(10) more times.

Change to the rose-coloured yarn and work according to rows 3-4 of the chart. Repeat these two rows alternating between the black and the rose-coloured yarn.

When you've worked 36(36)40(40) rows in total, finishing with two rose-coloured rows [9(9)10(10) rose coloured stripes in total], break the yarn.

Crochet the other piece to match.

C. Neckline border

The center pieces of the front and the back and those of the sleeves are joined together.

1st row: Join the black yarn by making 1 double crochet into the chain of sts in the upper right corner of one of the sleeve pieces (the last rows were crocheted with the rose coloured yarn). Make 2 chain sts (1st treble crochet), 1 tr into the same chain of sts and then 2 trs into each chain in the upper edge of the piece = 10(10)12(12) treble clusters. Continue crocheting into the upper edge of the front center piece and make 2 trs into every arch of chain sts in the upper edge [ = 17(20)22(22) treble clusters]. For both back center piece and the other sleeve center piece, make 2 trs into every arch of chain sts in the upper edge. Join the round by making 1 slip st (sl st) into the 3rd chain st from the beginning of round. 54(60)68(68) treble clusters and 108(120)136(136) treble crochets in total.

2nd row: 3 ch sts ( = 1st htr + 1 ch st), *1 htr into the first tr of the next treble cluster, 1 ch st, repeat from * 52(58)66(66) more times and join the round by making 1 sl st into the 2nd ch st from the beginning of row = 108(120)136(136) sts. Change for the rose-coloured yarn.

3rd row: 1 sl st into the ch st between the trs, 3 ch sts (= 1st tr), 1 tr into the same ch st between the trs and then make 2 trs into every ch st. Join the round with 1 sl st. 54(60)68(68) treble clusters and 108(120)136(136) treble crochets in total.

4th row: 1 sl st into the middle of the 1st treble cluster, 3 ch sts ( = 1 htr + 1 ch st), *1 htr into the 2nd tr of the next treble cluster, 1 ch st, repeat from * 52(58)66(66) more times and close the round with 1 sl st = 108(120)136(136) sts. Change to the black yarn.

5th row: 1 sl st into the ch st between trs, 2 ch sts ( = 1st htr), 1 htr into the same chain st between trs and then 2 htrs into every ch st. Note: evenly decrease 11(17)19(21) sts by crocheting 2 half trebles together (= finish the 1st htr except for the last yarn over, yarn over, put the hook through the work, yarn over and pull up loop through the work, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook) for a total of 11(17)19(21) times. 97(103)117(115) half trebles in total.

6th row: 2 ch sts (= 1st htr), crochet 1 htr into each htr from the previous row and at the same time evenly decrease 0(0)8(0) htrs = 97(103)109(115) half trebles. Join the round with 1 sl st. Break the yarn.

D. The borders of the center pieces

Join the off-white yarn with 1 dc into the edge of the last row on the upper left corner of the other sleeve section (last rose-coloured row). The starting point is marked with red into the chart. Continue crocheting into the edge of the piece (see the red arrows)

1st row: 2 dc into the row of treble crochet sts and 1 htr into the row of half treble crochet sts. Then crochet 2 trs into every row of trebles and 1 tr in each row of half trs. In the lower corner of the center section, crochet 3 ch sts, 1 tr into every tr in the bottom edge, 3 ch sts into the corner and continue crocheting through to the other side of the center section of the sleeve. Make 2 trs for each row of trs, 1 tr for each row of half trebles. For the 3rd to last row crochet 1 htr and for the 2nd to last row 2 dcs. Where the two center pieces meet, crochet 2 dcs together (the first into the last row of the sleeve piece and the second into the last row the other front).

Continue crocheting into the edge of the front center piece. 1 dc into the side of the last row of the top edge, 2 dcs into the next row of trs and 1 htr into the row of htrs. Then make 2 trs into every row of trs and 1 tr into every row of htrs. On the bottom edge of the center piece, make 3 ch sts in the corner, 1 tr into each tr in the bottom edge of the center piece, 3 ch sts in the corner and then continue crocheting into the other edge of the center piece. For each row of trs, make 2 trs and for each row of half trs make 1 tr. Into the 3rd to last row of the center piece do 1 htr and to the 2nd to last row make 2 dcs. Where the two center pieces meet crochet 2 dcs together (one into the last row of the front center piece and the other into the last row of the other sleeve center piece).

Continue crocheting as described before in to the edges of the second sleeve center piece and then into the edges of the center piece of the back. Finish off by making 1 dc into the last row of the back center piece and join the round with 1 sl st into the 1st dc of the round.

2nd row: 1 ch st, *skip 1 st, make 1 htr into the next st, 1 ch st, repeat from *. Into the chain of sts in the lower corners make 1 htr, 3 ch sts, 1 htr and crochet 2 dcs together where the pieces are joined (crochet the sts in the center piece through the ch st). To the end of row make 1 dc, change for the rose-coloured yarn and close the round by doing 1 sl st into the first ch st of the row.

3rd row: 1 ch st, skip 1 ch st between the trs and crochet 2 trs into the next ch st between the trs. Then crochet 2 trs into each ch st, 2 trs into the chain of sts in the corner, 3 ch sts, 2 trs and where the pieces are joined crochet 2 dcs tog. To end the row crochet 1 dc and join the round by doing 1 sl into the first ch st of the row.

4th row: 1 ch st, *skip 1 st, make 1 htr into the next st, 1 ch st, repeat from *. For the chains of sts in the lower corners make 1 htr, 3 ch sts, 1 htr and where the pieces are joined crochet 2 dc together. End the row by crocheting 1 dc, change to the off-white yarn and join the round by making 1 sl st into the first ch st of the row.

Repeat rows 3-4. Crochet 2 rows with the off-white yarn and 2 rows with the rose-coloured yarn until you have worked 10(12)12(14) rows in total for the border. Change to the black yarn and crochet the next row following instructions for row 3.

The last row: 1 ch st, make 1 tr into each st on the last row. Into the chain of sts in the corners make 1 tr, 3 ch sts, 1 tr and where the pieces are joined crochet 2 dc together. End the row with 1 dc and close the round with 1 sl st into the first ch st of the row. Break the yarn.

Finishing

Lay the piece to measurements wrong side up on a surface, mist with a spray bottle and allow to dry.

Sew the seams and the side seams for the sleeves: with the wrong sides of the garment together, sew the sides together by working from the right side of the work and going through the back loop of the border sts, one stitch at a time. We recommend using the overcast stitch technique.
