Gauge
21 sts and 28 rows in stockinette st = 10 cm / 4 in
Front
Cast on 81(89)99(107)115(123) sts and work garter st for 3 rows. Then work stockinette st.
When the piece measures 13(14)14(15)15(16) cm, decrease 1 st at both ends: on a RS row k2, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over), work to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. Repeat the decreases after 6 cm = 77(85)95(103)111(119) sts.
When the piece measures 31(31)32(33)35(37) cm, place a marker at the middle st of the piece and begin the lace pattern on row 1 of chart I(I)II(II)III(III) as follows: on a RS row work to last 2 sts before middle st, work the middle 5 sts of the chart, work to end. Work rows 2–20(20)24(24)28(28) of the chart. On every 5th row the lace section will widen by 6 sts on both sides of the 5 middle sts.
Note: When the piece measures approx. 34(34)35(36)38(40) cm, at the beginning of the next row bind off 1x2(4)4(6)6(8) sts at the right end for the armhole (1 st on right needle), p2, knit to end. At the beginning of the WS row bind off 1x2(4)4(6)6(8) sts at the left end (1 st on right needle), k2, purl to last 3 sts, k3. At both ends work 3 sts in reverse stockinette st and decrease 1 st at both ends: (RS) p3, skp, work to last 5 sts, k2tog, p3. Repeat the decreases every other row (every RS row) 2(4)3(5)3(5) more times = 67(67)79(79)91(91) sts. At both ends keep working 3 sts in reverse stockinette st. With the other sts work as established.
After row 20(20)24(24)28(28), place a marker at both ends for the starting point of the lace section in the back. At both ends keep working 3 sts in reverse stockinette st and keep repeating rows 21–28(21–28)25–32(25–32)29–36(29–36) of the chart.
When the armhole measures approx. 14,5(15,5)16,5(17,5)17,5(18,5) cm and you have last worked a WS row, work 5 rows in garter st. Bind off.
Back
Work like front but work stockinette st instead of lace until the armhole matches the markers on row 20(20)24(24)28(28) in the front. At both ends keep working 3 sts in reverse stockinette st. With the middle 61(61)73(73)85(85) sts, work row 21(21)25(25)29(29) of chart I(I)II(II)III(III). Work rows 22–28(22–28)26–32(26–32)30–36(30–36) of the chart, then keep repeating rows 21–28(21–28)25–32(25–32)29–36(29–36).
When the armhole measures approx. 14,5(15,5)16,5(17,5)17,5(18,5) cm and you have last worked a WS row, work 5 rows in garter st. Bind off.
Finishing
Pin to measurements wrong side up, mist and allow to dry.
Sew the shoulder seams, leaving an approx. 22(22)23(23)24(24) cm wide neck opening.
Sew the side seams.
