Stitch patterns K1 p1 ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat *–*.K3 p1 ribbing in the round: *k3, p1*, repeat *–*.Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all rows.
Gauge 25 sts in ribbing, lightly stretched = 10 cm / 4 in
Using Pine, cast on 56 sts and divide them onto four double-pointed needles, 14 sts each. The beginning of round is between needles I and IV. Work k1 p1 ribbing in the round for 2 cm.
Switch to Sage, knit 1 round, then work k3 p1 ribbing in the round.
When the leg measures 15 cm, switch to Pine and begin the heel flap:
Row 1: k27, ie. knit the sts on needles I and II onto the same needle and slip the last st on needle II onto needle III. Turn work.
Row 2: slip 1 with yarn in front, p26. Turn work.
Row 3: *slip 1 with yarn in back, k1*, repeat *-* until 1 st remains, k1.
Repeat rows 2-3 13 more times, then work the WS row once more.
Begin French heel turn:
Row 1: (RS) k15, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over), k1. Turn work.
Row 2: (WS) slip 1, p6, p2tog, p1. Turn work.
Row 3: slip 1 knitwise, k7, skp, k1. Turn work.
Row 4: slip 1, p8, p2tog, p1. Turn work.
Row 5: slip 1 knitwise, k9, skp, k1. Turn work.
Continue in this manner until you have worked all heel flap sts. Break yarn and divide the heel flap sts onto two needles.
Switch to Sage and knit the left heel flap sts. Using a free needle pick up 14 sts from the left end of the heel flap + 1 st from between the flap and needle III. Using the left-hand sole needle knit the picked-up sts through the back loop. On needles III and IV keep working k3 p1 ribbing as established. Using the right-hand sole needle pick up 14 sts from the right end + 1 st from between needle IV and the heel flap. Knit the picked-up sts through the back loop and knit the heel flap sts. On needles I and II work stockinette st; on needles III and IV (instep) work as established.
At the same time begin gusset decreases: at the beginning of needle I, skp; at the end of needle II, k2tog. Repeat the decreases every other round until 27 sts remain on needles II and I.
Work as established until the foot measures approx. 20 cm or until the sock covers your fifth toe.
Switch to Pine and knit 1 round. Distribute the sts so that there are 14 sts on each needle.
With all sts work stockinette st in the round and begin toe decreases: at the beginning of needles I and III, k1, skp; at the end of needles II and IV, k2tog, k1. Repeat the decreases every other round until 24 sts remain.
Distribute the sts onto two needles, 12 sts each on the sole and instep. Graft the sts together.
Knit the other sock in the same manner.
Finishing
Crochet a border on the cast-on edge using the off-white Venla yarn:
Round 1: 1 double crochet (dc) into each st, close the round with 1 slip st into the first dc of the round = 56 dc.
Round 2: chain 1, skip 1 dc, 5 trebles (tr) into next dc, *skip 1 dc, 1 dc into next dc, skip 1 dc, 5 tr into next dc*, repeat *-* 12 more times and close the round with 1 sl st into first ch at the beginning of round. Break yarn and weave in.
Weave in the ends. Lightly steam the socks.
