Star
Twist the yarn into a loop and work 5 double crochet (dc) into it. Continue working in the spiral, moving straight to the next row.
Row 1: work 2 dc into each dc = 10 dc.
Row 2: *1 dc, work 2 dc into the next dc*, repeat *-* to end of round = 15 dc.
Row 3: *2 dc, work 2 dc into the next dc*, repeat *-* to end of round = 20 dc.
Working flat, begin the points of the star:
Rows 4-6: work 3 dc, 1 slip stitch (sl st), chain 1 (ch 1) and turn work.
Rows 7-8: work 2 dc, 1 sl st, ch 1 and turn work.
Row 9: work 2 dc, turn work and work 6 sl sts into the left edge of the point. You have now completed the first point.
Work four more points to the star following rows 4-9.
Work 1 row of dc around the star.
Make another piece in the same manner but don't break the yarn as you will join the pieces later.
