Cast on 88(106)124 sts and begin ribbing on the WS: work 1 st in garter st, *p1, k1*, repeat *-*, work 1 st in garter st.
After 5 cm, increase 1 st at both ends on the next row, then repeat the increases = 92(110)128 sts. Also work the increased sts in ribbing.
Begin the lace rib pattern on row 1 of chart I: work the 1 st at the right edge, repeat the 18 st pattern 5(6)7 times, work the 1 st at left. Note: The number of sts varies from row to row. The numbers used in the instructions apply to rows 5-12 and 17-24 when there are 18 sts in each pattern repeat.
Work rows 2-12 of the chart, then repeat rows 1-12 twice more. Work rows 13-24 three times. Then keep repeating rows 1-12.
When the piece measures approx. 31(33)35 cm and you're ready to work row 7, 9, 11, 19, 21 or 23 of the chart, bind off 1x10 sts at right for the armhole and work to end of row. At the beginning of the next row (WS), bind off 1x8 sts = 74(92)110 sts.
When the armhole measures 20(22)24 cm, leave the middle 36 sts on hold for the neckline. Work one shoulder at a time. On every other row bind off 2x6(9)12sts and 1x7(10)13sts at the armhole edge for the shoulder.

Work like back until the armhole measures 17(19)21 cm. Leave the middle 24 sts on hold for the neckline. Work one shoulder at a time. On every other row bind off 2x2 sts and 2x1 st at the neckline edge.
When the armhole measures 20(22)24 cm, on every other row bind off 2x6(9)12 sts and 1x7(10)13 sts at the armhole edge.
Knit the other shoulder in the same manner.
Sleeves
Cast on 36(36)38 sts and begin ribbing on the WS with p1(p1)k1.

Sew the shoulder seams.
Neckline edge: Place the sts you left on hold on the circular needle and pick up and knit additional sts from the neckline edge for 82(84)88 sts in total. Start at one of the shoulder seams. Work ribbing in the round for 4 cm, then work a stretchy bind-off in pattern.
Attach the sleeves following the red marks on the pattern. Sew the sleeve seams and side seams.
Steam the sweater lightly.
