Cast on 206(222)238(254)278(294) sts and begin 2x2 rib on WS with p2. Work in 2x2 rib for 5 cm / 2". Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 st on the first row = 207(223)239(255)279(295) sts.

Begin textured pattern on row 1 of the chart as follows: work 1 st from the right edge of the chart, then repeat the 8-st pattern repeat 25(27)29(31)34(36) times and finish with the 6 sts from the left edge of the chart. Repeat chart rows 1–12.

When the piece measures approx. 18(19)19(20)20(21) cm / 7(7.5)7.5(7.75)7.75(8.25)" and you have just worked chart row 2 or 8, work the next row as follows: 10(10)10(18)18(18) sts in textured pattern, 42 sts in stockinette stitch (do not slip any sts) for the pocket, 103(119)135(135)159(175) sts in textured pattern, 42 sts in stockinette stitch for the second pocket and 10(10)10(18)18(18) sts in textured pattern. On the next WS row, purl the 42 pocket sts and work the remaining sts in textured pattern.

On the next row, work 10(10)10(18)18(18) sts in textured pattern, knit 42 sts with waste yarn, slip these sts back onto the left needle and knit them again with the working yarn, work 103(119)135(135)159(175) sts in textured pattern, knit 42 sts with waste yarn, slip these sts back onto the left needle and knit them again with the working yarn, then work 10(10)10(18)18(18) sts in textured pattern. On the next WS row, purl the 42 pocket sts and work the remaining sts in textured pattern. Then continue in textured pattern over all sts.

When the piece measures 42(43)44(45)47(48) cm / 16.5(17)17.25(17.75)18.5(19)", divide the work into three parts on the next row: on a RS row, work 46(50)54(54)58(62) sts, bind off the next 11(11)11(19)19(19) sts for the armhole, work 93(101)109(109)125(133) sts, bind off the next 11(11)11(19)19(19) sts for the second armhole and work to the end of the row. Place the 46(50)54(54)58(62) sts of each front on hold and continue on the centre 93(101)109(109)125(133) sts for the upper back.

Upper Back

Continue in textured pattern on the 93(101)109(109)125(133) back sts.

When the armhole measures 16(17)18(19)19(20) cm / 6.25(6.75)7(7.5)7.5(7.75)", bind off the centre 31(31)31(31)33(33) sts firmly for the neck and work the first side of the neck. After 2 rows, bind off 2 sts once more at the neck edge.

When the armhole measures 18(19)20(21)21(22) cm / 7(7.5)7.75(8.25)8.25(8.75)", bind off the remaining 29(33)37(37)44(48) shoulder sts. Work the other side of the neck to match.

Upper Right Front

Continue in textured pattern on the 46(50)54(54)58(62) sts of the right front.

When the armhole measures 9(10)11(12)12(13) cm / 3.5(4)4.25(4.75)4.75(5)", place 11(11)11(11)10(10) sts at the front edge (= right edge) on hold, e.g. on a piece of yarn, for the neck. At the neck edge, bind off on every other row 2 sts 2(2)2(2)1(1) times and 1 st twice.

When the armhole measures 18(19)20(21)21(22) cm / 7(7.5)7.75(8.25)8.25(8.75)", bind off the remaining 29(33)37(37)44(48) shoulder sts.

Upper Left Front

Work as for the upper right front, reversing all shaping.

Sleeves

Cast on 54(54)58(58)60(60) sts and work in 2x2 rib for 5 cm / 2". Work 2 rows in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 st on the first row = 55(55)59(59)61(61) sts.

Begin textured pattern on row 1 of the chart. The centre of the piece is marked with an arrow at the bottom of the chart; count from there to find where to begin the pattern. Repeat chart rows 1–12.

When the piece measures 8(11)6(9)11(7) cm / 3.25(4.25)2.25(3.5)4.25(2.75)", increase 1 st at each edge. Repeat the increases every 3.5(2.5)3(2.5)2.5(2.5) cm / 1.5(1)1.25(1)1(1)" 9(12)12(14)13(15) more times = 75(81)85(89)89(93) sts. Work the increased sts in textured pattern too.

When the piece measures 45.5(46.5)47.5(50)50(51) cm / 18(18.25)18.75(19.75)19.75(20)", bind off all sts.

Work the second sleeve the same way.

Finishing

Place the pieces wrong side up on a flat surface, pin to measurements, spray with water and let dry.

Sew the shoulder seams.

Neckband: Pick up sts around the neckline in addition to the sts on hold, so that you have 98(98)98(102)102(102) sts in total. Begin 2x2 rib on WS with p2. Work in 2x2 rib for 3 cm / 1.25" and bind off in rib.

Front bands: Pick up 22 sts for every 10 cm / 4" along the front edge of the left front; the number of sts should be a multiple of 4 + 2. Begin 2x2 rib on WS with p2. When the band measures 3 cm / 1.25", bind off in rib.

Now mark the button positions on the band: the top one approx. 1.5 cm / 0.5" from the top edge, the bottom one approx. 1.5 cm / 0.5" from the lower edge and the rest evenly spaced in between.

Work a matching band along the front edge of the right front, making the buttonholes when the band measures 1.5 cm / 0.5". Buttonhole: k2tog, yo.

Pockets: Remove the waste yarn from the pocket opening and at the same time place the sts from the lower and upper edges on hold, e.g. on a piece of yarn. Work the 42 sts of the lower edge in 2x2 rib as follows: on a RS row, k3, *p2, k2*, repeat *–* and finish with k3. When the edging measures 3 cm / 1.25", bind off in rib. Sew the ends of the edging to the front.

Place the sts of the upper edge on the needle and work in stockinette stitch for the pocket lining until it reaches the top of the hem rib. Sew the pocket lining to the front.

Work the second pocket the same way.

Sew the side seams and sleeve seams. Sew the sleeves into the armholes (the matching points are marked in red on the schematic). Sew on the buttons.
