Assembly
Assemble the pieces according to the layout diagram. Notice that two whole squares are placed at shoulders. Leave the armholes open (shown in red in the diagram). Place the two half pieces at neckline edge at back and two triangles at both sleeve caps. Sew the seams using whipstitch. Sew the sleeve seams along the sides of three whole squares and sew sleeves in place.
Finishing
Work a round of dc around the edges with the color you used for the last rounds of granny squares. Start from the bottom corner of right front. Note. Decrease (work 2 or 3 dc together) evenly along the edges to get the right number of sts on the sides of the squares. Work as follows:
Ch3, 1dc in next 2 sts each, ch1, skip 1 (= first buttonhole). Along right front, work 16(18)20 dc on each square and skip each seam between squares. The skipping will create a buttonhole at each seam. When you have worked all but 3 dc before upper corner, work the last buttonhole as the first one. Work 3 dc at corner.
Work 17(19)21 dc along the top of right front, 3 dc together at corner, 8(9)10 dc along the side of neck, 3 dc together at corner. Work 16(18)20 dc on next two half pieces each (back neck), 3 dc together at corner, 8(9)10 dc along the side of neck, 3 dc together at corner. Work 18(20)22 dc along the top of left front, 3 dc at corner, 19(21)23 dc on each square along left front, 3 dc at corner. Work 19(21)23 dc on each square along hem, work 2 dc at starting corner. Join with sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round.
Shell edging round: *skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st, sl st in next st*, repeat *–* to end of round.
Work 1 round of dc and 1 shell edging round to both cuffs.
Weave in ends. Pin the garment to measurements on a flat surface, wrong side up. Lightly steam or spray with water and let dry. Sew buttons.
