Stitch pattern

Garter stitch: knit every row.

Cable pattern: See chart.

Rib:

Row 1:*K1,P1, rep from* to end.

Row 2: *K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Stocking stitch: knit on RS, purl on WS.

Rib in round: *K2,P2,rep from* to end.

Tension

18 sts and 25 rows to 10 cm measured over stocking st

24 sts and 25 rows to 10 cm measured over cable patt (chart II.)

Front

Using smaller needles cast on 102sts. Work in garter st 5 rows. Change to larger needles.

RS: Cast off 13sts (marked on pattern with green) and work the left half first. Beg and ending rows as indicated, work short rows in patt from chart I. as folls:

Row 1: K3. Turn.

Row 2: P3. Turn.

Row 3: cont in patt from chart over 7 sts. Turn.

Row 4: cont in patt from chart over 7 sts. Turn.

Cont working short rows this way. Row 20 = 35sts. Cont working short rows. During next 10 rows 18sts will be added (every alt row:4sts+4sts+3sts+4sts+3sts) = 18st patt rep. Work over these sts 18 st patt rep and rep rows 19-42 until you have worked all 89sts. Dec 1 st at left end. Rep dec at left end every 4th row 21 times =67 sts. Front meas about 41 cm.

Shape Armhole

Cast off 5 sts at left end once, work 1 row. Cast off 2sts at left end every alt row twice. Dec 1 st at left end of foll alt rows 21 times = 37sts. Cast off rem 37sts.

Right Half

Using larger needles pick up and knit 141sts from right edge of previously finished left piece as folls: leave 8cm at top for neck unpicked, pick up and knit 141sts, leave 13 previously casted off sts of bottom edge unpicked (see blue arrow marked on pattern for working direction). Beg and ending rows as indicated, cont in patt from chart II. as folls:

(WS): Row 1: Work 6sts as indicated in chart (from left end), repeat 18st patt to end. Cont in patt and repeat rows 1-24 and AT THE SAME TIME start increases at bottom edge = right end and neckline decreases =left end as folls:

RS: work 1 st, M1 =make one stitch by picking up horizontal loop before next stitch and knitting into back of it, work until you have 3 sts left on your left hand needle, K2tog, K1. Rep bottom edge inc every alt row 7 times and neckline dec every alt row 7 times =141sts.

Shape Side

Cast off at right end every alt row 2sts 13 times, 3sts 13 times and AT THE SAME TIME work at left end 6cm without decreases, inc every alt row 1 st 14 times = RS: work until you have 2 sts left on your left hand needle, M1, K2. Cast on 2sts at left end. Dec 1 st at left end every alt row. After finishing side shaping work as folls:

Shape Armhole

RS: cast off 5sts, work 26sts, cast off 10sts for armhole, work to end. Leave right side 26sts on a holder. Cont 1 st dec at left end every alt row for shoulder. Cast off at right end every alt row 10sts 3 times. Cast off rem sts. Rejoin yarn to sts on holder. Cast off at left end every alt row 3sts twice, 2sts once for armhole and AT THE SAME TIME cast off at right end every alt row 5sts twice, 3sts once for side.

Back

Using smaller needles cast on 98sts. Work in garter st 5 rows. Change to larger needles. Beg and ending rows as indicated, cont in patt from chart III. as folls:

Row 1: Work 23 sts as indicated in chart (from right end), repeat 19st patt twice, work 37 sts from left end in chart. Cont in patt and repeat rows 1-24. Work until back meas 6cm. Inc 1 st at each end. Repeat increases at each end in 6 cm intervals 6 times = 112 sts. Work increased sts in stocking st.

Work until back meas 41cm.

Shape Armholes

Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of foll alt rows 5 times as folls: K1, sl1,K1,psso, work until you have 3 sts left on your left hand needle, K2tog, K1 = 98 sts. Work until armhole meas 18 cm.

Shape Shoulders and Back Neck

Cast off 22 sts in the middle of back for neck and work in patt to end. Leave right side sts on a holder. Work each side of neck separately. Work 2 rows. Cast off 1 st at neck edge. Work until armhole meas 20cm. Cast off rem 37 sts. Rejoin yarn to sts on holder and patt to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.

Sleeves

Using smaller needles cast on 46sts. Work in rib 3 cm. Change to larger needles. Cont in stocking st. Work until sleeve meas about 10 cm. Inc 1 st at each end. Repeat increases in 3,5 cm intervals 10 times =68 sts. Work until sleeve meas 49 cm.

Shape top

Cast off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next and every foll alt row 3 times. Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Cast off rem sts.

Making Up

Flatten the pieces to the desired dimensions on an even surface, wrong side up. Wet with water spray, and allow to dry. Join both shoulder seams. Join the edge seam in hem on right end of front.

Collar

Using 40cm circular needle pick up and knit 96 sts evenly from neck edge. Work in rib in round 15 cm. Cast off sts in rib.

Join side seams and sleeve seams using back stitch or matress stitch if preferred. Set in sleeves.
