Stitch patterns Ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat *–*. Cable pattern: follow the chart and instructions. Seed stitch in the round: Round 1: *k1, p1*, repeat *–* to end of round. Round 2: purl the knit sts and knit the purl sts. Keep repeating rounds 1–2.
Gauge 20 sts in seed st with larger needles = 10 cm / 4 in; 32 sts in cable pattern (following chart II) on larger needles = 10 cm / 4 in
Body
The body is knitted in the round up to the armholes.
Using the smaller needles, cast on 266(282)298(314)330(346)362 sts and place marker for beginning of round. Work ribbing in the round for 5 cm.
Switch to the larger needles and begin the cable pattern on row 1 of the charts: *work 12(16)20(24)28(32)36 sts in seed st, work section A from chart I (26 sts), work 1 st from right end of chart II, repeat section B (9 sts) 6 times (= 54 sts), work 2 sts from left end of chart II, work section C from chart III (26 sts), work 12(16)20(24)28(32)36 sts in seed st.* Place side marker and repeat *–*.
Keep working seed st at both ends. In the cables, work rows 2–16 of charts I and III and rows 2–12 of chart II. Then keep repeating rows 1–16 of charts I and III and rows 1–12 of chart II.
When the piece measures 37(38)39(40)44(46)48 cm and you have last worked an odd-numbered row, divide the sts into two groups: work next round (even-numbered row) to side marker, remove marker, leave next 133(141)149(157)165(173)181 sts (front) on hold.
Top back
Turn work and work back and forth with the 133(141)149(157)165(173)181 back sts.
When the armhole measures 20(21)22(23)23(24)25 cm, bind off the middle 55 sts for the neckline. Work one side at a time. On every other row bind off 3x2 sts at the neckline end; at the same time, on every other row bind off 1x11(13)13(15)17(17)19 sts and 2x11(12)14(15)16(18)19 sts at the shoulder.
Knit the other side in the same manner.
Top front
Place the 133(141)149(157)165(173)181 front sts back onto the needles and work like back.
When the armhole measures 15(16)17(18)18(19)20 cm, bind off the middle 39 sts for the neckline. Work one side at a time. On every other row, bind off at the neckline: 1x5 sts, 1x3 sts, 2x2 sts and 2x1 st.
Note: Begin the shoulder decreases at the same point as on the back and bind off 1x11(13)13(15)17(17)19 sts and 2x11(12)14(15)16(18)19 sts on every other row.
Knit the other side in the same manner.
Sleeves
Use either the double-pointed needles or the circular needle and the Magic Loop technique.
Using the smaller needles, cast on 62(62)62(64)66(68)70 sts. Work ribbing in the round for 5 cm. Switch to the larger needles. Knit 1 round, evenly increasing 7(9)11(11)11(11)11 sts = 69(71)73(75)77(79)81 sts.
Begin the cable pattern on row 1 of the charts: work 6(7)8(9)10(11)12 sts in seed st, work section D from chart I (= 9 sts), work 1 st from the right end of chart II, repeat section B (9 sts) 4 times (= 36 sts), work 2 sts from the left end of chart II, work section E from chart III (= 9 sts), work 6(7)8(9)10(11)12 sts in seed st, beginning with k1 if working an even number of sts or p1 if working an odd number of sts.
When the piece measures 7 cm, increase 1 st at both ends of the seed st section: knit or purl the strand of yarn between the sts through the back loop as required to maintain the seed st pattern. Repeat the increases every 3(2.5)2.5(2.5)2(2)2 cm 11(12)13(14)13(14)15 more times. Work the increased sts in seed st = 93(97)101(105)105(109)113 sts.
When the piece measures 44(45)46(47)47(48)49 cm, bind off.
Knit the other sleeve in the same manner.
Finishing
Pin to measurements wrong side up, mist and allow to dry.
Sew the shoulder seams. Attach the sleeves.
Neckline: Using the smaller circular needle (40 cm) or the double-pointed needles, pick up and knit approx. 110(110)112(112)114(114) sts from the neckline. Work ribbing in the round for 6 cm, then bind off in pattern. Fold the collar and sew the edge to the inside.
