Stitch patterns
Ribbing in the round:*k1, p1*, repeat *–*.
Striped texture pattern in the round: follow the chart and instructions.
Gauge
16 sts and approx. 25 rows in texture pattern with larger needles and with yarn held double = 10 cm / 4 in
Note
The sweater is knitted in the round from neckline to hem (see pattern for direction of knitting).
Using the smaller circular needle (40 cm) and the Semolina Porridge yarn held double, cast on 96(96)104(104)112(112) sts and work ribbing in the round for 8 cm.
Switch to the larger circular needle (40 cm). Begin increases and place markers at the edges of the pieces:
Increase round 1: place 1st marker (beginning of round), k2 (back), increase 1 (knit the strand of yarn between the sts through the back loop), k26(26)26(26)30(30), increase 1, k2, place 2nd marker, k2 (sleeve), increase 1, k14(14)18(18)18(18), increase 1, k2, place 3rd marker, k2 (front), increase 1, k26(26)26(26)30(30), increase 1, k2, place 4th marker, k2 (sleeve), increase 1, k14(14)18(18)18(18), increase 1, k2. The beginning of round is between the left sleeve and the back. 8 sts increased, 104(104)112(112)120(120) sts on the needles: 32(32)32(32)36(36) sts in the front and back, 20(20)24(24)24(24) sts in the sleeves.
On the next round, begin the striped texture pattern on row 1 of the chart: slip marker, k2 (back), repeat 4 st pattern 7(7)7(7)8(8) times, k2, slip marker, k2 (sleeve), repeat 4 st pattern 4(4)5(5)5(5) times, k2, slip marker, k2 (front), repeat 4 st pattern 7(7)7(7)8(8) times, k2, slip marker, k2 (sleeve), repeat 4 st pattern 4(4)5(5)5(5) times, k2.
Increase round 2: slip marker, k2 (back), increase 1, k28(28)28(28)32(32), increase 1, k2, slip marker, k2 (sleeve), increase 1, k16(16)20(20)20(20), increase 1, k2, slip marker, k2 (front), increase 1, k28(28)28(28)32(32), increase 1, k2, slip marker, k2 (sleeve), increase 1, k16(16)20(20)20(20), increase 1, k2. 8 sts increased, 112(112)120(120)128(128) sts on the needles: 34(34)34(34)38(38) sts in the front and back, 22(22)26(26)26(26) sts in the sleeves.
Work row 3 of the chart, then keep repeating rows 4–15. Work 2 sts on both sides of the markers in stockinette st. Repeat the increases on both sides of the 4 st stockinette sections on every other round (even-numbered rows of the chart). Work the increased sts following the textured pattern.
After you have completed the increases 20(22)24(26)28(30) times in total [40(44)48(52)56(60) rows], there are 256(272)296(312)336(352) sts on the needles: 70(74)78(82)90(94) sts in the front and back, 58(62)70(74)78(82) sts in the sleeves.
Next round: work 70(74)78(82)90(94) back sts, leave 58(62)70(74)78(82) sleeve sts on hold, cast on 0(2)4(8)8(12) sts for armhole, work 70(74)78(82)90(94) front sts, leave 58(62)70(74)78(82) sleeve sts on hold, cast on 0(2)4(8)8(12) sts for armhole = 140(152)164(180)196(212) sts.
Body
With the 140(152)164(180)196(212) sts work striped texture pattern in the round.
When the body measures approx. 26.5(27)27(27.5)29(29.5) cm from the armhole, switch to the smaller circular needle (80 cm) and work ribbing in the round using Semolina Porridge. Loosely bind off in pattern.
Sleeves
Using the larger circular needle (40 cm), pick up and knit 0(2)3(3)4(6) sts from the left end of the armhole cast-on, work 58(62)70(74)78(82) sleeve sts, pick up 0(2)3(3)4(6) sts from the right end of the cast-on = 58(66)76(80)86(94) sts. Place marker for beginning of round.
Work striped texture pattern in the round.
When the sleeve measures 4(4)2(3)2(2) cm from the armhole, decrease 1 st on both sides of the beginning of round: k2tog through the back loop, work to last 2 sts, k2tog. Repeat the decreases every 4(4)2.5(3)2.5(2.5) cm 6(6)11(9)12(12) more times = 44(52)52(60)60(68) sts.
Note: Switch to the double-pointed needles when you need to.
When the sleeve measures 40(41)42(43)44(45) cm from the armhole (or length desired before 5 cm cuff), switch to the smaller double-pointed needles and work ribbing in the round for 5 cm. Loosely bind off in pattern.
Finishing
Fold the neck ribbing and sew the edge to the inside.
Pin to measurements and steam lightly.
