Finished dimensions

For head circumference of 50–54(56–60) cm

Gauge swatch Ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat *–*. Cabling in the round: as per diagram and instructions

Knitting tension 16 sts and 24 rows with the larger needles = 10 cm

1

Cast on 60(74) sts to smaller circular needles. Join to work in the round and place a stitch marker here to mark the beginning of a round. Work in rib stitch for approx. 13(15) cm.

2

Knit one round and increase (right leaning increase: use your left needle to pick up the strand between the last stitch and the next stitch from back to front and knit into the front of this stitch) by 10(10) sts at even intervals. There are now 70(84) sts on the needle.

3

Switch to the larger circular needles and, working in the round, start the cable pattern from Round 1 of the diagram and repeat the 14 sts pattern 5(6) times. Work Rounds 2 to 12 as per diagram, repeat Rounds 1 to 12 twice and then repeat Rounds 1 to 6.

4

Begin crown decreases:

1st decrease round: *p2tog, p2tog, k10* and repeat *–* 4(5) times. This will decrease your work by 10(12) sts, leaving a total of 60(72) sts.

5

2nd decrease round: *p2tog, k10* and repeat *–* 4(5) times. This will decrease your work by 5(6) sts, leaving a total of 55(66) sts.

6

3rd decrease round: *p1, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k1* and repeat *–* 4(5) times. This will decrease your work by 15(18) sts, leaving a total of 40(48) sts.

7

4th decrease round: *k2tog* and repeat *–* to end of round. This will decrease your work by 20(24) sts, leaving a total of 20(24) sts.

8

5th decrease round: *k2tog* and repeat *–* to end of round. This will decrease your work by 10(12) sts, leaving a total of 10(12) sts.

9

Break yarn, leaving a 15 cm tail. Use a darning needle to thread the yarn through the remaining sts, pull tight and neatly darn in ends on WS of work.
