Stitch patterns:
- Brioche stitch in the round (even number of stitches):
Round 1: *p1, k1*, repeat *-*.
Round 2: *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the knit st*, repeat *-*.
Round 3: *purl the yarn over and purl st together, yarn over, slip the knit st*, repeat *-*.
Round 4: *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the yarn over and knit st to-gether*, repeat *-* to end of round.
Keep repeating rounds 3-4.
- Brioche stitch flat (odd number of stitches):
Row 1: knit the 1st st, *knit the yarn over and knit st together, yarn over, slip the purl st*, repeat *-*, knit the last st.
Row 2: knit the 1st st, *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the yarn over and knit st together*, repeat *-*, knit the last st.
Keep repeating rows 1-2.
- Ribbing:
*k1, p1*
Using the larger circular needle, cast on 92 sts and begin working brioche st in the round:
Round 1: *p1, k1*, repeat *-* to end of round.
Round 2: *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the knit st*, repeat *-* to end of round.
Round 3: *purl the yarn over and purl st together, yarn over, slip the knit st*, repeat *-*.
Round 4: *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the yarn over and knit st together*, repeat to end of round. Keep repeating rounds 3-4.
When the piece measures 35 cm, switch to the smaller needle (5 mm).
When the piece measures 50 cm and you have just finished round 3, continue the brioche stitch flat with 47 sts:
Row 1: knit the 1st st (WS of the work), *knit the yarn over and knit st together, yarn over, slip the purl st*, repeat *-* for 21 more times, knit the yarn over and knit st together, k1 (WS). Leave the other 45 sts on hold and turn work.
Row 2: k1, *yarn over, slip the purl st, knit the yarn over and knit st together*, repeat *-* for 21 more times, yarn over, slip the purl st, k1.
Keep repeating rows 1-2.
When you have worked the flat section for 25 cm or as you prefer, bind off in ribbing (remember to knit the yarnovers together with their matching sts).
Place the 45 sts on hold back onto the needle and pick up 1 st at both ends = 47 sts. Work brioche st flat as before.
When you have worked for 10 cm or as you prefer, bind off in ribbing (remember to knit the yarn overs together with their matching sts).
