First Half
Using double-pointed needles cast on 75 sts loosely. Distribute sts evenly over 4 of the 5 needles and, taking care not to twist cast-on edge and using 5th needle, work in rounds as follows:
Knit 1 round. Beg decreases:
Dec rnd 1: * K6, sl2, K1, psso, K6, rep from * 4 times = 65 sts.
Dec rnd 2: * K5, sl2, K1, psso, K5, rep from * 4 times = 55 sts.
Dec rnd 3: * K4, sl2, K1, psso, K4, rep from * 4 times = 45 sts.
Dec rnd 4: * K3, sl2, K1, psso, K3, rep from * 4 times = 35 sts.
Dec rnd 5: * K2, sl2, K1, psso, K2, rep from * 4 times = 25 sts.
Dec rnd 6: * K1, sl2, K1, psso, K1, rep from * 4 times = 15 sts.
Dec rnd 7: * sl2, K1, psso, rep from * 5 times = 5 sts. Break yarn leaving a long end. Pull end through all sts and tighten it.
Second Half
Pick up and knit 75 sts from first half's cast on edge. Start picking sts from halfway of star's tips. Mark middle sts of the star's tips with stitchmarkers. Decreases continue on the second half of the star in the same spots. Distribute sts so you have 7 sts before a stitchmarker on first needle.
Knit 1 rnd.
Work as for first half. Break yarn leaving a long end. Pull end through all 5 sts and tighten it.
To Make Up
Weave in all ends and sew star together in the middle with a few stitches. Lightly steam the star.
Felt ornaments in a washing machine. Use standard 40°C washing programme and laundry detergent. Add to the machine small amount of some other laundry such as 2 towels. Don't overfill the machine. Various machines felt wool differently. Shape ornaments to the desired dimensions after washing by pulling and brushing them into shape. You can repeat the felting process if needed.
Loop
Using thin wool or wool-blend yarn ch40. Attach the loop on top of the star.
Embroidery
Using thin wool or wool-blend yarn and basting stitch sew around the edges of the star. Use a sharp needle and sew only on the top of the star, not through the star.
