The back

Using the sand-coloured yarns and the smaller needles, cast on 74(78)82(86) sts and work 2 cm in ribbing. Change to the larger needle and work in stockinette st.

When the piece measures 24(26)28(30) cm, bind off for the armhole on both ends of the piece 1x3(4)4(5) sts = 68(70)74(76) sts. Next begin the raglan decreases: on the right side row, k1, skp (=slip 1, knit 1, pass the slipped st over) and when 3 sts remain, k2tog, k1. Repeat the decreases on every 2nd row another 11(14)15(18) times.

Continue the raglan decreases: on the right side row, k1, decrease 2 sts (slip 1, k2tog, pass the slipped st over), and when 4 sts remain k3tog, k1. Repeat the decreases on every 2nd row 4(3)3(2) more times.

Leave the remaining 24(24)26(26) sts on hold for the neckline.

The front

Using the sand-coloured yarn and the smaller needles, cast on 74(78)82(86) sts and work 2 cm in ribbing. Change to the larger needle and begin the stockinette st.

When the piece measures 2(2)3(4) cm, begin the intarsia pattern from row 1 of the chart. The middle point of the pattern is marked with an arrow in the bottom of the chart, use that to calculate the correct starting point for the pattern. Knit the toffee-coloured sts, the sts marked with black will be stitched onto the pattern later on.

Note: When the piece measures 24(26)28(30) cm, bind off for the armhole on both ends of the piece 1x3(4)4(5) sts = 68(70)74(76) sts. Work the raglan decreases in the same way as in the back piece.

Note: When you have 44(42)46(44) sts on the needles, on the next row leave the middle 18 sts on hold e.g. on a piece of scrap yarn for the neckline and switch to working one side of the neckline at a time. Continue the raglan decreases and bind off on every 2nd row on the neckline edge 1x3 sts, 2x2 sts and 0(0)1(1)x1 st.

Knit the other side of the neckline in the same fashion.

The left sleeve

Using the sand-coloured yarn and the smaller needles, cast on 32(32)34(34) sts and work 2 cm in ribbing. Change to the larger needle, begin the stockinette st and on the first row evenly increase 2 sts = 34(34)36(36) sts.

When the piece measures 5(7)7(6) cm, increase 1 st on both ends. Repeat the increase every 2,5(2)2(2) cm for 8(10)11(13) more times = 52(56)60(64) sts.

When the piece measures 27(30)32(34) cm, bind off on both ends of the piece 1x3(4)4(5) sts. Begin the raglan decreases: on the right side row k1, skp and when 3 sts remain k2tog, k1. Repeat the decreases on the right edge of the piece on every 2nd row for 16(18)19(20) more times and at the same time on the left edge on every 2nd row another 14(16)17(19) times.

When you've completed the raglan decreases on the left end of the piece, bind off on that end on every 2nd row 2x5(4)5(5) sts and then bind off the remaining sts.

Knit the right sleeve as the mirror image of the left one.

Finishing

Lay the pieces to measurements wrong side up, mist with a spray bottle and allow to dry.

Stitch the black parts, as well as the nostrils with the sand-coloured yarn, onto the pattern according to the chart.

The ears: Using the sand-coloured yarn, cast on 28 sts and distribute them onto two double-pointed needles. Work stockinette st in the round for 10 rounds. On the next round decrease 1 st on both ends of both needles (in the beginning of the needle make the skp decrease and at the end of the needle k2tog) = 24 sts. Repeat the decreases on every round 2 more times = 16 sts. Break the yarn, pull it through the remaining sts and pull tightly to close the hole.

Knit the other ear to match. Using the picture as an example, attach the ears onto the front of the sweater.

Sew the sleeve seams and the raglan seams.

The neckband: Move the sts on hold for the neckline onto the 40 cm circular needle. Using the sand-coloured yarn, pick up sts along the neckline edge so that you'll end up with 72(72)76(76) sts. Begin from the second raglan seam on the back. Work 3 cm of ribbing in the round and bind off in pattern.
