Breeze mittens Novita 7 Veljestä Raita
A basic mitten with a gusset thumb, easy as they come. Novita 7 Brothers Raita is a evenly striped yarn, so the stripes will take care of themselves while you knit your mittens.

Left mitten
Cast on 32(40)44(48) sts and divide them onto four needles, 8(10)11(12) sts each. The beginning of round is between needles I and IV. Work ribbing in the round for 5(7)9(10) cm.
Work 4 rounds in stockinette st. Redistribute the sts:
110 cm: 4+12+8+8 sts.
150 cm: 4+16+10+10 sts.
Women: 4+18+11+11 sts.
Men: 4+20+12+12 sts.
Begin Indian thumb gusset:
Increase round 1: work the 4 sts on needle I, increase 1 st (using needle II, pick up the strand of yarn between needles I and II and knit it through the back loop onto needle I), work to end of round. 33(41)45(49) sts on the needles, 5 sts on needle I.
Increase round 2: work the 5 sts on needle I, increase 1 st (using needle II, pick up the strand of yarn between needles I and II and knit it onto needle I), work to end of round. 34(42)46(50) sts on the needles, 6 sts on needle I.
Continue increasing as established until there are 16(20)22(24) sts on needle I.
Leave the 12(16)18(20)sts on needle II on hold for the thumb on e.g. a piece of scrap yarn. Redistribute the sts so that there are 8(10)11(12) sts on each needle.
Work stockinette st in the round until the piece measures approx. 12(15)17(18) cm from the edge of the cuff or when the mitten covers your index finger.
Top decreases: at the beginning of needles I and III, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over), and at the end of needles II and IV, k2tog. Work the decreases on every round until 8 sts remain. Break yarn, pull it through the sts and securely weave in.
Right mitten
Mirror left mitten. After the ribbing work 4 rounds in stockinette st and distribute the sts as follows:
110 cm: 8+8+12+4 sts.
150 cm: 10+10+16+4 sts.
Women: 11+11+18+4 sts.
Men: 12+12+20+4 sts.
Work the thumb gusset increases between needles III and IV onto needle IV.
Thumb
Place the held sts onto three needles and pick up 2 additional sts from the base of the thumb. Work stockinette st in the round with these 14(18)20(22) sts.
When you have worked for 3,5(4,5)5(5,5) cm or when the mitten covers half your thumbnail, work the top decrease: skp at the beginning of each needle until 8 sts remain. Break yarn, pull it through the sts and securely weave in.
Finishing
Steam the mittens lightly.
