Stitch patterns
Stockninette stitch:
On the right side (RS) rows knit all stitches. On the wrong side (WS) rows purl all stitches.
Colourwork:

Gauge:
21 sts ja 24 rows in colourwork = 10 cm
Note:
First, the upper part of the cardigan and the sleeves are knitted sideways from the left cuff to the right cuff (see the direction of knitting from the pattern).
Left sleeve
Using the Lichen coloured yarn, cast on 63(65)65(67)69 sts and knit 3 rows in stockinette stitch.
Begin the colourwork from the 1st row of the chart marked I, chooze starting point according to the arrow that indicates the size you have chozen. Keep repeating the 8 st pattern repeat throughout the round. Knit rows 1-27 of the chart.
Note: When the piece measures 5(3)1(3)7 cm, increase 1 st on both ends of the row. Repeat these increases every 2(2)2(2)1,5 cm for another 14(15)17(16)20 times = 93(97)101(101)111 sts. Continue working the colouwork pattern also with the increased stitches.
When you have finished row 27 of the chart I, repeat rows 28-37 of that chart for a total of 5(5)5(5)6 times. Sizes L and XL only: knit through rows 28-31 once more. The left sleeve is now finished. Keep knitting through to the bodice.
Upper part of the bodice
Knit through rows 38-53 of chart I. Then keep repeating rows 54-63 until the shoulder (= the height of the bodice) measures approx. 14(16)17,5(20)22,5 cm and you have just finished a RS row. On the next WS row, knit through 36(36)42(42)44 sts, bind off 10(12)8(8)11 sts for the neckline and finish the row. Leave the stitches on the left on hold for the front and continue in the colourwork pattern with the remaining 47(49)51(51)56 back sts. When you have knitted with these stitches for approx. 23(25)27(29,5)32 cm and you have just finished either row 57 or row 62 of the chart, you are on the middle back, halfway through the neckline. Keep knitting until the other side of the neckline is the same width as described before. Leave the sts for the back on hold.
Take the front sts back on the needles and decrease on the right end ( = on the edge of the neckline) on every row 28(28)32(32)34x1 st. Bind off the remaining 8(10)10(10)10 sts.
Now cast on 8(10)10(10)10 sts for the upper part of the right front. Begin the colourwork at the same point where the upper part of the left front ended. Reverse all the rows of the colourwork pattern (mirror image). At the same time increase on the neckline on every round 28(28)32(32)34x1 st and cast on another 10(12)8(8)11 sts = 46(48)50(50)55 sts.
Move the front and back sts on the same needle (making sure that you are on the same row on both pieces) and continue working the same colourwork pattern until it matches the other shoulder, finishing off with row 60 of the chart. Knit through rows 66-81 of chart I. On the bottom of the chart there is an arrow indicating the center of the piece, from there you can count the right starting point for the pattern. 93(97)101(101)111 sts on the needles.
Keep knitting through to the right sleeve.
Right sleeve
Continue working the colourwork pattern from row 37(37)31(31)37 of the chart I and reverse all the rows of the chart (mirror image of the left sleeve). Note: when you are 2 cm into knitting the right sleeve, decrease 1 st on both ends. Repeat the decreases every 2 cm for another 14(15)17(16)20 times = 63(65)65(67)69 sts.
Keep working the colourwork reversing all the rows (mirror image of the left sleeve).
When, after completing the last pattern, you have knitted 3 rows in stockinette stitch using the Lichen coloured yarn, bind off the stitches.
Sew the sleeve seams.
The lower part of the cardigan
Pick up and knit 193(209)225(249)265 sts from the bottom edge of the upper part with the right side facing you. Purl through the WS row.
Begin working the colourwork pattern from row 1 of chart II. Repeat the 8 st pattern repeat 24(26)28(31)33 times and then knit the remaining 1 st on the left edge. Repeat rows 1-10 of the chart for a total of 2(2)2(3)3 times. Size L only: knit through rows 1-4 one more time.
Knit through rows 11-53 of the chart. Knit 4 rows in stockinette stitch using the Lichen coloured yarn and then bind off the stitches.
Finishing
Lay the piece wrong side up on a surface, spray with a water bottle and let to dry. In this pattern the neckline and the front edges of the cardigan will be left as is.
