Paiste Granny Square Bag
The trendiest outfit of the summer is made from crocheted squares!
You can make this bag using traditional granny squares, flat flower motifs, raised flower motifs – or by combining different types of squares together! See detailed instructions for the squares here.

Notes If you use different granny square designs in one project, you may need to use different hook size for different squares to ensure the pieces are the same size. Please note that yarn consumption varies depending on the yarn used and the granny square design chosen.
Granny squares
For the bag, you can use any of the three granny squares: simple, flat flower of raised flower. Make 41 whole squares according to the pattern of your choice. The sample bag was made using raised flower granny squares in the following color combinations:
Piece 1 (13 pcs): Round 1: dream, round 2: papaya, rounds 3–4: white, rounds 5–7: cola.
Piece 2(9 pcs): Round 1: lavender, round 2: dream, rounds 3–4: raspberry, rounds 5–7: cola.
Piece 3 (10 pcs): Round 1: papaya, round 2: white, rounds 3–4: lavender, rounds 5–7: cola.
Piece 4 (9 pcs): Round 1: white, round 2: lavender, rounds 3–4: dream, rounds 5–7: cola.
Assembly and finishing
Assemble the pieces according to the layout diagram. Sew the seams through the back loop using whipstitch. Sew the side seams (shown in red in the diagram) in the same way.
Edging and handles: Join yarn with sl st to top edge, to right side of one of the short sides of bag. Work in spiral rounds:
Round 1: Work 17 sc back loop only along each square. Note. If needed, decrease (work 2 sc together) evenly along the edges to get the right number of sts on the sides of the squares. You have 204 sc.
Round 2: Work sc sts back loop only and evenly decrease 12 sts (1 st at each square) = 192 sc.
Round 3: Work sc sts back loop only and evenly decrease 12 sts (1 st at each square) = 180 sc.
Round 4: Work sc sts back loop only and evenly decrease 12 sts (1 st at each square) = 168 sc.
Rounds 5–10: Work 1 sc in each st back loop only = 168 sc.
Work 7 sc back loop only (to center of short side). This is the new beginning of round.
Round 11: Work 21 sc back loop only, ch60, skip 42 sts, 42 sc back loop only, ch60, skip 42 sc, 21 sc back loop only.
Next round: Work 1 sc in each st back loop only = 204 sc.
Work 6 more rounds as the previous one, then 1 sl st in each st for 1 round. Cut yarn and fasten off.
Weave in ends. Lightly steam the bag.
