Stitch patterns Ribbing: *k2, p2*, repeat *-* to end. On the wrong side rows
Cast on 78 sts and begin ribbing: (WS) p2, *k2, p2*, repeat *-* to end of row. Work ribbing for approx. 4 cm and finish with a WS row.
Begin the cable pattern on row 1 of the chart: k3, work section A (= 16 sts), section B (= 40 sts), section C (= 16 sts), k3. Keep working 3 sts at both ends in garter st and work as established. At sections A and C work rows 2-6 and then keep repeating rows 1-6. At section B work rows 2-8 and then keep repeating rows 1-8.
When the scarf measures approx. 83 cm, begin increases at the left end, at the 3 purl sts around the cables in section C: (RS) work to section C, p3, increase 1 (purl the strand of yarn between the sts through the back loop), work both cables (3 sts remaining in section C), increase 1, work to end. Repeat the increases every 2 cm 3 more times. Work the increased sts in reverse stockinette st. Place a marker at the last increase. 86 sts on the needles.
When the scarf measures approx. 118 cm, you are at the halfway point. Place marker.
Work as established until the other half reaches the increase marker in the first half. Begin decreases at the same spots where you increased at section C: at 2 cm intervals, decrease 1 st on both sides of the cables a total of 4 times. Decrease by p2tog. 78 sts now on the needles.
After approx. 114 cm from the halfway point, finish on row 1 of sections A and C. Work ribbing for 4 cm and bind off in pattern.
Finishing
Lightly steam the scarf.
Fold the scarf and sew the seam of the hood (the edge with the increases, approx. 35 cm).
