Stitch patterns:
- Fisherman's rib in the round:
Row 1: *k1, p1*, repeat from * to *.
Row 2: *k1, yo and slip the purl st*, repeat from * to *.
Keep repeating rows 1-2.
The WS of the fisherman's rib will be on the RS of the work. When the work is finished and the ribbing is folded, the RS of the fisherman's rib will be displayed.
- Ribbing in the round:
*k1, p1*, repeat from * to *.
- Stockinette stitch in the round:
knit all rows.
Gauge 17 sts of fisherman's rib
Using the circular needle, cast on 96 sts and work 1 row of ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat from * to * to end of round. Begin the fisherman's rib in the round:
Round 1: *k1, yo and slip the purl st*, repeat from * to * to end of round.
Round 2: *k1, purl the next st together with the yarn over*, repeat from * to *. Keep repeating rows 1-2.
When the piece measures 24 cm and you have just worked row 2 of the fisherman's rib, switch to working stockinette st in the round and decrease 1 st on the first round = 95 sts.
When the stockinette stitch section measures 19 cm, begin the decreases:
1st decrease round: *k2tog, k3*, repeat from * to * to end of round = 76 sts. Knit two rounds.
2nd decrease round: *k2tog, k2*, repeat from * to * to end of round = 57 sts. Knit one round.
3rd decrease round: *k2tog, k1*, repeat from * to * to end of round = 38 sts.
4th decrease round: k2tog, repeat to end of round = 19 sts.
5th decrease round: k1, *k2tog*, repeat from * to * to end of round = 10 sts.
Break the yarn, pull it through the remaining stitches, and pull tightly to close the hole. Securely weave in the yarn ends on the WS.
Fold the brim twice.
