The Sydäntalvi (Heart of Winter) socks are available in three different lengths and sizes - choose our suggested colour combinations or pick your own favourites!

Stitch patterns Ribbing in the round:*k2, p2*, repeat *–*. Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all rounds. Colourwork in the round: work stockinette st following the chart. Twist the yarns around each other on the WS (at different points on back-to-back rows) to avoid long floats. Always take the contrasting colour from under the main colour. This will make the contrasting colour the dominant colour and you’ll get a neat result.
Gauge 23 sts in colourwork = 10 cm / 4 in
Construction The socks are knitted from cuff to toe.
Part 1
Leg
Using Copper, cast on 60 sts and divide them across four needles, 15 sts each. The beginning of round is between needles I and IV, at the centre back. Join for working in the round. Work ribbing for 8 rounds, then knit 2 rounds using Copper.
Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart I. Work the 60 st pattern. Work rows 2–17 of the chart. Work row 18; size 38/39 only: decrease 1 st at the end of each needle. 56(60)60 sts on the needles.
