Stitch patterns
- Ribbing in the round: *k2, p2*
Left mitten
Using the Linen yarn, cast on 48 sts and divide them onto four double-pointed needles, 12 sts each. Work ribbing in the round for 6 cm. Knit 1 round, increasing 1 st at the midpoint and end of each needle = 56 sts.
Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart I and work the 56 st pattern. Work rows 2-15.
On the next round (row 16), mark the thumbhole: work needle I and 4 sts on needle II, work the next 10 sts with a different-coloured piece of yarn, move the sts back onto the left-hand needle and continue as established. Work rows 17-34 of the chart.
Work 4 rounds of ribbing with Linen, evenly decreasing 2 sts on each needle on the first round. Bind off in pattern.
Thumb
Remove the separate yarn and pick up the sts from the top and bottom edge of the thumbhole. Pick up 2 additional sts on both sides of the thumb = 24 sts. Distribute the sts onto four needles, 6 sts each. Work stockinette st in the round with Linen. On the first round, decrease 1 st on each needle = 20 sts. Work for 3,5 cm, then purl and bind off all sts.
Right mitten
Work as you did the left mitten except for the thumbhole: work 10 sts at the beginning of needle III with a different-coloured yarn.
Finishing
Lightly steam the mittens.
