Stitch patterns:
- Ribbing in the round:
*k1, p1*, repeat *-*.
- Two-colour brioche rib in the round:
Round 1 (colour 1): *k1, sl1yo*, repeat *-* until end of round.
Round 2 (colour 2): *sl1yo, brp*, repeat *-* until end of round.
Round 3 (colour 1): *brk, sl1yo*, repeat *-* until end of round. Repeat rounds 2-3.
Note: The yo is always counted together with its corresponding st as 1 st.
Gauge:
16 sts in brioche rib on larger needles
Using colour 1 and the smaller needles, cast on 96(104)104 sts. Divide sts evenly on 4 needles = 24(26)26 sts per needle. Work ribbing in the round for 3 cm.
Switch to larger needles and begin working the brioche rib as instructed in Stitch patterns.
When the hat measures approx. 12(20)15 cm and you have last worked round 2 with colour 2, begin decreases:
Decrease round 1 (colour 1): work until 3 sts remain on needle I, brk2tog, sl1yo. Work the other needles in the same manner = 4 sts dec'd.
Decrease round 2 (colour 2): work until 3 sts remain on needle I, sl1, sl1yo, brp. Work the other needles in the same manner.
Decrease round 3 (colour 1): work until 3 sts remain on needle I, brk2tog, sl1yo. Work the other needles in the same manner = 4 sts dec'd.
Decrease round 4 (colour 2): *sl1yo, brp*, repeat *-* until end of round.
Repeat decrease rounds 1-4 until 4 sts remain on each needle. Break the colour 2 yarn.
On the next round, work each needle as follows: brk, brk2tog, k1. Break the yarn and pull it through the remaining 12 sts.
Finishing
Steam the hat lightly. Weave in all yarn ends. Optional: Attach a pompom to the hat
