Stitch patterns
Half fisherman's rib in the round
Round 1: *P1, k1*, repeat *-* to end.
Round 2: *P1, yo, sl1 purlwise*, repeat *-* to end.
Round 3: *P, k2tog (the yo and sl1 of previous row)*, repeat *-* to end.
Keep repeating rounds 2-3.
Note: €˜Yarn over' (yo) is effectively the same as €˜yarn forward and over needle' (yfon)
Rib stitch in the round
All rounds: *P2, k2*
Using circular needle cast on 56 sts, join to work in the round and start working in rib stitch: *p1, k1*, repeat *-* to end. Work 2 rounds and after that, start working in half fisherman's rib in the round:
Round 1: *P1, yo, sl1 purlwise*, repeat *-* to end.
Round 2: *P1, k2tog (the yo and sl1 of previous row)*, repeat *-* to end.
Keep repeating rounds 1-2.
When the work measures 28 and you have just worked round 2, divide the sts onto four dpns and work 5 rounds in rib stitch: *p1, k1*, repeat *-* to end. Then, decrease for the top:
Decrease round 1: P2tog to end = 28 sts.
Decrease round 2: P2tog to end = 14 sts.
Cut yarn, thread through sts and pull tight. Turn the hat inside out (so that the WS becomes the RS). Weave in ends. Fold the bottom over.
