Stitch patterns:
- Garter stitch (knitted flat):
knit all rows.
- Garter stitch in the round:
*purl 1 round, knit 1 round*
Yoke
Using the smallest circular needle, cast on 100(106)106(112)112 sts for the neckline and knit 1 round. Turn work, knit 1 round and at the same time evenly increase 4(6)10(16)16 sts = 104(112)116(128)128 sts. Do not turn work. Continue working in the round.
Round 3: *k2, p9(10)11(13)13, k3, p25(27)27(29)29, k3, p9(10)11(13)13, k1*, repeat *-* once more. The beginning of round is in the middle of the back, so the 1st st of the round is the middle st of the back section. 25(27)29(33)33 sts on the front and back sections, 27(29)29(31)31 sts on both sleeves.
Begin increases at the end of each section and in the middle of the front and back sections:
Round 4 (1st increase round): *k1, increase 1 st (= yarn over), k11(12)13(15)15, yarn over, k1, yarn over, k27(29)29(31)31, yarn over, k1, yarn over, k11(12)13(15)15, yarn over*, repeat *-* once more. 12 sts increased, 4 sts in the front and back and 2 sts on the sleeves. 116(124)128(140)140 sts on the needles.
Rounds 5 and 7: *k2, p11(12)13(15)15, k3, p27(29)29(31)31, k3, p11(12)13(15)15, k1*, repeat *-* once more.
Round 6: knit all sts.
Note: Switch to a larger circular needle when necessary.
Round 8 (increase round): *k1, yarn over, k13(14)14(17)17, yarn over, k1, yarn over, k29(31)31(33)33, yarn over, k1, yarn over, k13(14)14(17)17, yarn over*, repeat *-* once more. 12 sts increased, 128(136)140(152)152 sts on the needle.
Rounds 9 and 11: *k2, p13(14)15(17)17, k3, p29(31)31(33)33, k3, p13(14)15(17)17, k1*, repeat *-* once more.
Round 10: knit all sts.
Keep working garter st. Work the 3 sts at the section edges and in the middle of the back and front sections in stockinette st. Repeat the increases every 4th round in the same manner 14(15)16(17)18 more times. After the last increases work one more round. 296(316)332(356)368 sts now on the needles [the yoke measures approx. 18(18)19(20)21 cm].
Front and back bottom
Knit the 45(48)51(55)57 back sts, leave the 59(63)65(69)71 sleeve sts on hold, cast on 2(2)4(4)6 sts for the armhole, knit the 89(95)101(109)113 front sts, leave the other 59(63)65(69)71 sleeve sts on hold, cast on 2(2)4(4)6 sts for the other armhole, knit 44(47)50(54)56. 182(194)210(226)238 sts on the needles.
Mark the sides with e.g. a different-coloured yarn. Work garter st in the round. Keep working the middle 3 sts in the front and back in stockinette st. Keep repeating the increases every 4th round and on the same round decrease 1 st on both sides of both side markers (=k2tog). The number of sts remains the same.
When the piece measures 14(15)15(16)16 cm, continue the increases in the middle of the back and the front on every 4th round as before, but on every 8th round do not decrease on the sides. 4 sts increased every 8 rounds. Work the rest of the piece in this manner.
When the side measures 49(50)51(52)53 cm from the armhole and you have last worked a purl round, loosely bind off in pattern.
Sleeves
Using the double-pointed needles, move the 59(63)65(69)71 sleeve sts on hold onto the needles. Pick up and knit 2(2)4(4)6 sts from the armhole cast-on = 61(65)69(73)77 sts. Work garter st in the round so that the beginning of the round is at the midpoint of the picked-up sts.
When you have worked for 1 cm, decrease 1 st on both sides of the beginning of the round. Repeat the decreases every 1(1)1(1,5)1 cm 2(3)3(2)3 more times = 55(57)61(67)69 sts.
When inner sleeve measures 5(5)6(6)7 cm and you have last worked a purl round, loosely bind off in pattern.
Knit the other sleeve to match.
Finishing
Lay the tunic to measurements wrong side up and steam lightly.
