The back

Using the pomegranate yarn, cast on 95(104)110(119)128 sts and begin the ribbing on the wrong side of the work: *p2, k1*, repeat *-*. At the end of row, p2. Work in ribbing for 6 cm.

Then switch to stockinette st, increasing 1(0)0(1)0 st on the 1st row = 96(104)110(120)128 sts.

When the piece measures 19(20)20(21)21 cm, increase 1 st at both ends. Repeat the increase after 15 cm = 100(108)114(124)132 sts.

When the piece measures 39(40)41(42)43 cm, cast on a further 61(61)63(63)65 sts at both ends for the sleeves = 222(230)240(250)262 sts.

Begin the short rows:

Row 1: on the RS row, knit 209(220)228(240)253 sts, leave the other 13(10)12(10)9 sts on hold, and turn work.

Row 2: yarn over, purl 196(210)216(230)244, leave the other 13(10)12(10)9 sts on hold, and turn work.

Row 3: on the RS row, knit 183(200)204(220)235, leave another 13(10)12(10)9 sts on hold, and turn work.

Row 4: yarn over, purl 170(190)192(210)226, leave 13(10)12(10)9 more sts on hold, and turn work.

Row 5: on the RS row, knit 159(180)182(201)216 sts, leave 11(10)10(9)10 more sts on hold, and turn work.

Row 6: yarn over, purl 148(170)172(192)206, leave 11(10)10(9)10 more sts on hold, and turn work.

Switch to the grey yarn and continue in the same manner, leaving 11(10)10(9)10 more sts on hold at both ends every two rows. Work until 82(90)92(102)106 sts remain. Turn work, yarn over. Move the sts on hold at the right end onto the left-hand needle.

Switch to the off-white yarn, and cast on 31(33)33(36)36 sts at the beginning of the row. Knit all 222(230)240(250)262 sts, working the yarn overs as follows: At the right end, slip the st before the yarn over, knit the yarn over and pass the slipped st over. At the left end, knit the yarn over together with the following st. Cast on another 31(33)33(36)36 sts at the end of the row = 284(296)306(322)334 sts. Purl all WS sts.

Begin the colourwork pattern from row 1 of chart. The starting point for each size is marked with an arrow. Keep repeating the 34 st pattern repeat as needed. Then work rows 2-10 of the chart.

Continue the colourwork pattern from row 11 of the chart. The starting point for each size is marked with an arrow. Work pattern repeat A (= 40 sts) 3(3)3(4)4 times, and then keep repeating pattern repeat B (= 40 sts) to end of round as needed. Then work rows 12-22 of the chart.

Continue the colourwork pattern from row 23 of the chart. The starting point for each size is marked with an arrow. Work pattern repeat A (= 24 sts) 5(6)6(6)6 times, and then keep repeating pattern repeat B (= 24 sts) to end of round as needed. Work rows 24-31 of the chart. Then work rows 30-31 for 0(0(1)1(2) more times.

Note: When you have finished row 26(26)28(28)30(30), tightly bind off the middle 56 sts on the next row for the neckline. Working one side of the neckline at a time, decrease 2x1 st every 2nd row at the neckline edge. At the same time, on every 2nd row bind off 2x37(39)41(44)46 sts for the sleeve. Then bind off the remaining 38(40)41(43)45 sts.

Knit the other side of the neckline to match.

The front

Work as you did on the back until you have finished row 18(18)20(20)22 of the chart. On the next row, bind off the middle 42 sts for the neckline. Work one side of the neckline at a time. On every 2nd row, bind off 2x3 sts and 3x1 st at the neckline edge. Bind off the shoulder sts at the same point as you did on the back.

Knit the other side of the neckline to match.

Finishing

Lay the pieces to measurements, mist on the wrong side and allow to dry.

Sew the shoulder seams.

Cuffs Using the black yarn, pick up 41(41)43(43)45 sts from the RS of the sleeve. Work stockinette st for 3 rounds. Using the off-white yarn, knit one RS round, and then work 4 rounds in reverse stockinette st. With the black yarn, purl one WS round, and then work 4 rounds in stockinette st. Bind off.

Work a matching edge for the other cuff.

Neckline edge: Using the black yarn, pick up 101(101)103(103)105 sts from the neckline edge and knit 4 rounds. Switch to the off-white yarn, knit 1 round, purl 4 rounds. With the black yarn, knit another 4 rounds. Bind off.

Stitch the decorations onto the sweater. Attach the tassels as pictured.
