Ribbing in the round: *k1, p1*, repeat *–*.
Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all rounds.
Colourwork in the round: work stockinette st following the chart and instructions.
Gauge 26 sts in stockinette st = 10 cm / 4 in
Note Twist the yarns around each other on the WS (at different points on back-to-back rows) to avoid floats longer than 5 sts.
Cast on 80(80) sts using Linen and divide them across four needles, 20(20) sts each. The beginning of round is between needles I and IV.Work ribbing in the round for 6(6) cm / 2.25(2.25) in.
Knit 2 rounds.
Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart I. Repeat the 16 st pattern 5(5) times.Work rows 2–38 of the chart.Knit 2 rounds using Nature.
Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of chart II:at the beginning of needle I, k1 using Nature; repeat the 6 st pattern 13 times; at the end of needle IV, k1 using Nature.
On row 2 of chart II, begin decreases: at the beginning of round, k1 using Nature, skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over); at the end of needle IV, k2tog, k1 using Nature.
Work rows 3–8 of the chart, then keep repeating rows 1–8.Repeat the decreases on every 4th(6th) round 10(8) times in total = 60(64) sts.
Note:Maintain pattern on all needles. You can also keep working the pattern with the first sts of needle I and the last 2 sts of needle IV or knit the sts using Nature.
When the leg measures approx. 35(35) cm / 13.75(13.75) in, knit 3 rounds using Nature.
Redistribute the sts across four needles, 15(16) sts each.
Begin heel flap: knit the sts of needle I onto needle IV and evenly decrease 2 sts = 28(30) sts. Leave the other sts on hold.Turn work and begin reinforced stitch pattern:
Row 1:(WS) slip 1 with yarn in back, purl to end.Turn work.
Row 2:(RS) *slip 1 with yarn in back, k1*, repeat *–* to end.
Repeat rows 1–2 a total of 14(15) times = 28(30) rows.
Work the WS row once more and begin turning the heel. Continue the reinforced pattern as established.Work the RS row until 10(11) sts remain.Skp, turn work.Slip 1, p8(8), p2tog, turn work.Slip 1, work to last 9(10) sts, skp.Continue in this manner, decreasing at the ends with 10(10) sts in the centre. When only the centre sts remain, divide the heel sts onto two needles, 5 sts each.Knit the 5(5) sts on the right. The beginning of round is now here.
Using a free needle, pick up 14(15) sts from the left end of the heel flap + 1 st from between the flap and needle II.Knit the 5(5) heel flap sts and knit the picked-up sts through the back loop.Needles II and III: knit all sts.Using the needle with 5(5) sts, pick up 14(15) sts from the right end of the flap + 1 st from between needle III and the flap. Knit the picked-up sts through the back loop and k5.
With these 70(74) sts, work stockinette st and begin gusset decreases: at the end of needle I, k2tog; at the beginning of needle IV, skp.Repeat the decreases on every other round until 14(15) sts remain.
Redistribute the sts across four needles, 14(15) sts each.
Work stockinette st until the sole measures 20(21) cm / 7.75(8.25) in or until the sock covers your fifth toe.
Begin toe decreases: at the end of needles I and III, k2tog, k1; at the beginning of needles II and IV, k1, skp.Decrease as established on every other round until 6 sts remain on each needle. Then work the decreases on every round. When 8 sts remain, break yarn, pull it through the sts and securely weave in.
