Stitch patterns:
- k2, p2 ribbing in the round: *K2, p2* and repeat *-*.
- Stockinette stitch in the round: Knit all stitches
- Colorwork stitches in the round: knit in stockinette using the chart.
- Stockinette stitch flat: Knit stitches on RS, purl on WS.
Using Navy, cast on 80 sts and divide them onto four needles, 20 sts each. The beginning of round is between needles I and IV. Work ribbing in the round for 3 cm, then knit 1 round.
Join Off White and Christmas. Begin the colourwork pattern on row 1 of the chart. Repeat the 8 st pattern 10 times. Work rows 1–10 of the chart. On the last round, increase 1 st = 81 sts.
Work row 11 of the chart: repeat the 9 st pattern 9 times. / repeat the 18 st pattern 4 times, then work the first 9 sts once more. Work rows 12–29 of the chart. Work row 30 and decrease 1 st = 80 sts.
Work row 31 of the chart: repeat the 8 st pattern 10 times. Work rows 32–38 of the chart.
Work rows 39–53 of the chart. On each round, the 10 st pattern is repeated 8 times.
Using Christmas, work stockinette st in the round for 2 rounds.
Begin heel flap: knit the sts of needle I onto needle IV = 40 sts. With these sts, work stockinette st back and forth for 20 rows.
Begin turning the heel: Work until 14 sts remain at the left end. Skp (= slip 1 knitwise, k1, pass slipped st over), turn work. Slip 1, p12, p2tog, turn work. Slip 1, work to last 13 sts, skp. Continue in this manner, decreasing at the ends with 14 sts in the middle. When only the middle sts remain, divide the sts to two needles, 7 sts each. Knit the 7 sts on the right. The beginning of round is now here. Break Christmas and continue with Navy.
Using the left-hand heel needle, pick up 12 sts from the left end of the heel flap + 1 st from between the needles. Knit the left-hand sts and knit the picked-up sts through the back loop. Knit the sts on needles II and III. Using the needle with 7 sts, pick up 12 + 1 sts from the right end of the flap. Knit the picked-up sts through the back loop and knit the heel flap sts.
With all 80 sts, work stockinette st in the round.
When you have worked for approx. 10 cm after the heel, begin toe decreases: at the end of needles I and III, k2tog, k1; at the beginning of needles II and IV, k1, skp. Repeat the decreases on every other round until 48 sts remain (12 sts on each needle). Then repeat the decreases on every round until 12 sts remain (3 sts on each needle).
Break yarn, pull it through the sts and securely weave in.
Finishing
Steam the stocking lightly.
Hanging loop: Using Christmas, cast on 6 sts and k6. *Do not turn work. Move the sts and yarn to the other end of the double-pointed needle and k6 again.* Repeat *–* until the loop measures approx. 15 cm, then bind off. Attach the loop to the top edge of the stocking.
