Double knitting in colorwork
Knit according to the chart and instructions.
Gauge:
18.5 sts and 30 rows of double-sided colorwork = 10 cm
Cast-on
Cast on 70 sts using Snorkmaiden’s color. Begin double-sided colorwork according to the chart. Note that each square represents two stitches: one always knitted with Snorkmaiden’s color, and the other with Moomintroll’s color.
Row 1: Hold both yarns over your finger and knit as follows:
*Knit 1 stitch with Snorkmaiden’s color, keeping the yarns at the back; purl 1 stitch with Moomintroll’s color, keeping the yarns at the front*, repeat *-* a total of 9 times. Then, knit 1 stitch with Moomintroll’s color, keeping the yarns at the back; purl 1 stitch with Snorkmaiden’s color, keeping the yarns at the front, repeat *-* to the end of the row, following the entire chart pattern.
Turn the work, twist the yarns around each other at the beginning of the row, and continue knitting from row 2 of the chart.
Knit rows 2–75.
Then, repeat rows 76–77 so that one side of the scarf is in Snorkmaiden’s color and the other in Moomintroll’s color. Attach the two sides to each other by twisting the yarns around each other at different points every few centimeters to keep the joins as invisible as possible.
When the piece measures approximately 175 cm, continue knitting according to the chart from row 78. Knit rows 78–103.
Bind-off
Bind off on the next right-side row as follows:
Slip the first stitch knitwise, knit the next 2 stitches together, and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitches. Knit the next 2 stitches together and pass the previous stitch over the knitted stitches. Repeat - to the end of the row, cut the yarn, and pull it through the last stitch.
Finishing
Attach 9 full tassels to both ends of the scarf using Snorkmaiden’s color.
For each tassel, cut 10 strands of yarn, each about 45 cm long. Gather the strands and fold them in half. Pull the folded end through the edge of the scarf, then pull the loose ends through the loop. Tighten securely.
