Stitch patterns:
- Ribbing in the round:
*k2, p2*

Using the charcoal yarn, cast on 92 sts and distribute them onto four needles, 23 sts each. The beginning of the round is between needles I and IV. Work ribbing in the round for 10 rounds. Knit 1 round.

Begin the colourwork in the round from row 1 of chart I and work the 92 st pattern. Then work rows 2-69.

1 st decreased at the beginning and end of round on rows 14, 32, 40, 52, and 61. 82 sts on the needles after the decreases.

Work row 70 and at the same time evenly decrease 8 sts = 74 sts. Break the yarns.

Distribute the sts: 18 sts on needle I, 19 sts on needle II, 18 sts on needle III, and 19 sts on needle IV.

Begin the heel flap: knit the sts on needle I onto needle IV = 37 sts. Leave the other sts on hold and turn work. Purl the sts using the charcoal yarn and at the same time evenly decrease 3 sts = 34 sts.

Begin the reinforced st pattern:

Row 1: (RS) *slip 1 (yarn in back), k1*, repeat *-* to end of row. Turn work.

Row 2: (WS) slip 1 (yarn in back), purl to end of row. Turn work.

Repeat rows 1-2 a total of 17 times (= 34 rows).

Continue working the reinforced st pattern and begin turning the heel: work the right edge of the heel flap until 12 sts remain at the other end. Work the skp decrease (= slip 1 knitwise, knit 1 and pass the slipped st over) and turn work. Slip 1, p10, p2tog. Turn work. Slip 1, keep working until 11 sts remain, skp. Continue in the same manner, decreasing sts on the sides while the middle group remains at 12 sts. When only the centre sts remain, distribute the heel flap sts onto two needles, 6 sts each. Knit 6 sts to move the yarn between needles IV and I.

Using needle I, pick up and knit 17 sts from the left edge of the heel flap + 1 st from between the needles. Using needle IV, pick up and knit 17 sts from the other edge of the heel flap + 2 sts from between the needles to get an odd number of sts. 86 sts on the needles.

Continue working the colourwork from row 1 of chart II and knit the picked-up sts through the back loop. Work rows 1-12. Work the gusset decreases at the end of needle I and beginning of needle IV following the chart. 74 sts on the needles after the decreases.

Continue the colourwork pattern from row 13 of chart II. Work rows 13-46. The foot now measures approx. 19 cm.

Work the toe decreases following rows 47-63. Break the yarns. Pass the yarns through the sts and securely weave in.

Knit the other sock to match.
