- Garter stitch in the round:
*knit 1 round, purl 1 round*
Start
Using one strand of the Wheat yarn cast on 20(24)28 sts and divide them onto four needles, 5(6)7 sts each. Work stockinette stitch in the round for 5 rounds.
Join Icy Peony held double. Knit 1 round, purl 1 round (= fold round).
Work stockinette st for 4(5)5 rounds, then purl 1 round. Work stockinette st for 5 rounds, purl 1 round.
Work stockinette st until the leg measures approx. 20(22)24 cm. Break yarn.
Work stockinette st flat with the 6(8)10 middle sts on the instep. Leave the other sts on hold, 7(8)9 sts on either side. Knit 1 row, decreasing 2 sts on sizes 38/39 and 43/44: k2tog through front loop, k(4)6, k2tog through back loop = 6(6)8 sts. Work stockinette st for 10(12)14 rows in total. On the last WS row decrease 2 sts: p2tog, p2(2)4, p2tog. Leave the remaining 4(4)6 sts on hold. Break yarn.
Continue at the beginning of round (middle back). Knit the 7(8)9 sts on hold, pick up and knit 9(10)12 sts at even intervals from the right end of the instep, knit the 4(4)6 instep sts, pick up and knit 9(10)12 sts from the other end and knit the remaining 7(8)9 sts = 36(40)48 sts. Work garter st in the round for 3(5)5 rounds. On the next round loosely bind off in pattern.
Sole
With Wheat held double cast on 4(4)5 sts and knit them. Turn work. Next row: k1, increase 1 st (= yarn over), k2(2)3, increase 1 st, k1 = 6(6)7. On the next row knit the yarn overs through the back loop. Work garter st until there are 15(17)20 purl stripes. On the next row decrease 2 sts: k1, k2tog through back loop, k0(0)1, k2tog through front loop, k1 = 4(4)5 sts.
Pick up 14(16)19 sts from the left edge of the sole (pick up 1 st from between each of the purl stripes), 4(4)5 sts from the end and 14(16)19 sts from the other edge = 36(40)48 sts. Purl 1 row, then loosely bind off in garter st.
Finishing
Steam the pieces lightly.
Crochet the soles to the boots stitch by stitch. Using the Wheat yarn held double and with the WSs facing each other crochet the edges together. Use slip stitches and make sure to work loosely enough.
Using the Wheat yarn embroider €œelongated stitches€ onto the second stockinette st section on the leg: embroider a duplicate stitch onto every other stitch.
Using Icy Peony held double make two approx. 70 cm long twisted braids. Tie the ends, leaving small tassels. Pull the braid under two stitches at the front (above the first purl stripe). Tie a bow.
