Left Hand Mitten
Using MC and double-pointed needles cast on 40[44]sts. Distribute sts evenly over 4 of the 5 needles and, taking care not to twist cast-on edge and using 5th needle, work in rounds as follows:
Work in rib in round 2 rnds.
Beg and ending rnds as indicated, cont in fair isle patt from chart I.[IV.] as folls:
Rnd 1: rep 10[12] st patt 4 times. Work rnds 1-13[15].
Using MC work in stocking st in round 3[4] rnds and AT THE SAME TIME inc evenly 4 sts during 2nd rnd = 44(48) sts.
Beg and ending rnds as indicated, cont in fair isle patt from chart II.[V.] as folls:
Rnd 1: work on needle I. and needle II. patt A= 22(24) sts, work on needle III. and needle IV. patt B= 22(24) sts. Work rnds 1-13[15]. Twist MC and CC on WS to prevent forming long loops.
Thumb Placement
Rnd 14[16]: work in patt 12[13] sts, using waste yarn knit 8[9] sts, put these sts back onto your left hand needle, work in patt to end. Cont in patt until rnd 32[38].
